Professor Siegel Nominated as “Most Influential Foreign Experts”

On March 16, Professor Jay Siegel, Dean of the School of Pharmaceutical Science and Technology of Tianjin University, was nominated as one of the “Most Influential Foreign Experts during 40 Years of China's Reform and Opening-up”. This news was released during the 16th Conference on International Exchange of Professionals.

Born in 1959, an established scientist and scholar, Dr. Siegel is famous for his outstanding achievements in chemistry. He is a fellow in the American Association for the Advancement of Science and the Royal Society of Chemistry. As a member in the Thousand Talent Program and a chief scientist of the 973 major scientific research programs, Dr. Siegel is now the first and only Dean of foreign origin at Tianjin University. Under his magnificent leadership, SPST has become one of the first four National Demonstration Schools of Internationalization in China.

During his tenure, Dr. Siegel vigorously promoted the reformation and internationalization of SPST, making remarkable progress in teaching, scientific research and administrative management. By inviting a total of 23 experts from Cambridge, Yale and other famous universities, he set up two sessions of advisory committees for selecting qualified elite teachers. After five years of international recruitment, the proportion of foreign teachers went up to 47.5%. Moreover, he revised the curriculum for graduates and post-graduates, adding brand new elements such as practical studies and discussion in the internationalized education system that enhanced the overall competitiveness of SPST.
