A student research team of Optelligent Technology at the School of Microelectronics, Tianjin University, developed an intelligent RF electromagnetic optimization EDA software with complete independent intellectual property rights, courtesy of Tianjin University. The related achievements have been authorized with multiple domestic and international invention patents.

EDA, short for Electronic Design Automation, is a simulation and optimization design tool widely used in the integrated circuit industry and chip design field. It is praised as the "pearl on the crown" of the integrated circuit industry. The continuous development of artificial intelligence makes it hard for traditional EDA tools to keep up with the growing scale and market demand of chip designs. The desire to come up with effective solutions to improve chip design efficiency has been prevalent among the industry. China even listed EDA tools as one of the six key supportive directions in the integrated circuit field in its "14th Five-Year Plan" as its home-made EDA tools account for less than 20% of the domestic market, leading to heavy reliance on imports.

In collaboration with Tianjin National Chip Fire Innovation and Entrepreneurship Platform, Optelligent Technology developed a new intelligent RF EDA software named IEOT (Intelligent Electromagnetic Optimization Tool). This software will be mainly used for the design and optimization of RF filters, which are crucial core components in wireless communication applications and have a broad market space. Compared to mainstream EDA tools, IEOT offers more than 20 times faster electromagnetic sensitivity simulation, more than 10 times higher electromagnetic optimization efficiency, and more than 6 times faster electromagnetic yield optimization.

With the new breakthrough, the student team won the first place of the gold medal at the Tianjin competition of the 9th China International "Internet+" College Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition in the industrial proposition track. They also received the special award in the 18th "Challenge Cup" National College Students Extracurricular Academic Science and Technology Competition in Tianjin.

The Optelligent Technology Team is a research team consisting of over 30 undergraduates, master’s and doctoral students from School of Microelectronics of Tianjin University. Funded by several national-level projects, including the National Natural Science Foundation Key Project and the National Natural Science Foundation Excellent Young Scientist Project (Overseas), the team focuses on research and development of EDA modeling and optimization technology in RF electromagnetic field. The team has signed an agreement to join the Tianjin National Chip Fire Innovation and Entrepreneurship Platform and plans to create advanced optimization interface modules for their EDA software, as well as provide customized optimization solutions. They aim to build a simulation-optimization integrated platform and establish collaborations with more RF filter companies and university research institutes in the future.
