Tianjin University Establishes the Research Center for Criminal Justice

 

On March 26, 2016, Tianjin University Law School established “The Research Center for Criminal Justice”. The University also launched a symposium titled social problem and legal policies for leftover and migrant children. The opening ceremony was held at the Weijin Road Campus of Tianjin University.

Over fifty delegates attended the symposium, comprising of representatives and administrative officials from the National People’s Congress, the Supreme people’s Court, the Supreme People’s Procurator ate, the Ministry of Civil Affairs, the China Law Society, the All-China Women’s Federation, Renmin University of China, Tianjin University (TJU), and Beijing Normal University. Ms. Zhang Junyan, who is the Director of Humanities and Social Science Department and Party Secretary of Tianjin University Law School, organized the symposium.

Professor Yuan Yingjin, the Vice-President of Tianjin University, expressed warm congratulations on the establishment of the research center. He also raised three expectations and requirements for the center’s future development: Firstly, further study and research the major difficult and immediate social issues, propose practicable countermeasures and solutions. Secondly, concentrate on the legal education and practical teaching, bring the frontier research achievements and viewpoints into class, inspire and enlighten the scientific spirit of the students, enrich the teaching content and strive to cultivate the superior talents of our nation. Thirdly, heighten our sense of mission, establish the consciousness for the prime, inherit Tianjin University’s rigorous academic attitude and develop a new teaching and scientific research chapter.

Professor Sun Youhai, Dean of the Tianjin University Law School, elaborated on the reason for establishing the Research Center for Criminal Justice. The Tianjin University Law School can trace its history back to Peiyang period. During that period, the distinguished alumni, Professor Wang Chonghui of Peiyang University (predecessor of Tianjin University), played a significant role in promoting the Chinese criminal law from traditional period into modern times. He pointed out that the Research Center for Criminal Justice will achieve important contributions to the future construction of Chinese Criminal law with the support from all staff members, students, Professors, and experts.

Professor Yuan Yingjin, Professor Sun Youhai, Professor Huang Taiyun, and Professor Ren Dongjuan the executive director of the center, jointly inaugurated the Research Center for Criminal Justice. Professor Yuan Yingjin issued the agreement of employment to Professor Huang Taiyun instating him as the Director of the Tianjin University Research Center for Criminal Justice.

Professor Huang Taiyun delivered a speech stating he will perform the duties as the director and work together with all staff members and students contributing to the future development of the Tianjin University Research Center for Criminal Justice, reviving the former glory of Peiyang University.

After the opening ceremony, the center launched a symposium titled social problem and legal policy for leftover and migrant children. The experts delivered speeches, further communicated and exchanged ideas and opinions.
