Tianjin University Celebrates Spring Festival

On February 5, Tianjin University held the 2024 Spring Festival Cultural Event together with stay put students during the Spring Festival holiday on both Weijin Road Campus and Peiyangyuan Campus.

Celebrating Spring Festival for stay put students is a tradition that Tianjin University for over 20 years. In order to ensure that the students have a festive and warm new year, the University prepared traditional New Year costumes and decorations, and invited professional photographers and makeup artists to take Spring Festival portraits of the students, capturing the beautiful moments in light and shadow.

International students enthusiastically donned traditional Chinese New Year costumes for photos. With deep appreciation to the charm of Chinese traditional culture, international students engaged in activities such as writing couplets and the Chinese character Fu. The activity "Writing to Your Family and Yourself" was well-received by both Chinese and international students, as they picked up pen and paper to express their thoughts and blessings to their families, as well as their own wishes and expectations for the new year.

The event was attended by the university's Party Secretary Yang Xianjin, President Jin Donghan, Vice President Wang Tianyou, and Deputy Party Secretary Han Qinghua, among others. They engaged in friendly conversations with the students, inquiring about their arrangements and their various needs. They extended their best wishes to everyone for a prosperous new year and good health. The university leaders also distributed Spring Festival gift packages to the students and took photos with them.


After participating in the event, student Yan Ruobing from the School of Chemical Engineering expressed her joy, saying, "The Spring Festival is the most important festival in China. This year, due to my research work on campus, I am unable to reunite with my family. However, I do not feel lonely because the university has thoughtfully organized these creative events for us. We wrote letters to our families at the Student Activity Center and took beautiful photos. With the help of professional stylists and photographers, we captured our happy smiles. I also had the opportunity to take a photo with the university leaders who came to visit us, which made me very happy!"

Wang Shen from the School of Life Sciences said, "The university organized a Spring Festival portrait shoot for us and the university leaders also distributed Spring Festival gift packages, which had touched me with care and warmth from the university community. I will repay the nurturing from our alma mater!"

On the same day, Party Secretary Yang Xianjin and President Jin Donghan also visited and extended their regards to the staff working on both campuses, inspecting the service and security work in place during the Spring Festival. Yang Xianjin visited the Zheng Dong Library and Tangyuan Canteen on Peiyangyuan Campus, engaged in friendly conversations with canteen and property staff on operation. He expressed gratitude to them for their dedication to providing service and security during the winter vacation and Spring Festival and extended New Year blessings to them and their families.

President Jin Donghan visited the sanitation team and Qiushi Canteen on Weijin Road Campus to get closer to the staff staying on campus, understanding their work and living conditions, expressing gratitude for their contributions to maintaining campus safety and stability, and encouraging everyone to provide comprehensive support for the study and life of stay put students.

Despite the cultural activities and supplies, the university will also provide free lunch and dinner on the day of Chinese New Year, and free breakfast on the first day of the lunar new year for stay put students, along with meal and gift vouchers that can be used at designated supermarkets and canteens on campus. Every effort is being made to ensure the logistical support and educational management of stay put students, allowing each student to feel the warmth of home. All schools will also organize a series of activities for students during the Spring Festival, such as making dumplings and watching the Spring Festival Gala, so that every student staying on campus can have a joyful and fulfilling Chinese new year.

In addition to providing meals in the cafeteria, the university will also launch a number of heartwarming initiatives:

Peiyangyuan Campus:

At noon on February 8, cooked dumplings will be provided at the front desk of the north wing of the Zheng Dong Library. On the evening of February 9, there will be dumplings, fruit, and snacks in the dormitory hall for stay put students.

Weijin Road Campus:

On February 9, Pengxiang Bath will hold activities for writing Chinese character Fu, couplets, and paper-cut window decorations. Students can take their work back to their dormitories for decoration. Students will also be provided with a box of milk candies, melon seeds, nuts, cola, and fruit.

From February 9 to 12, from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm, Lecture Building No. 23 on Weijin Road Campus will set up a service desk, providing candies, snacks, Spring Festival blessing cards, and interesting paper-cut window decorations.

To create a clean and tidy environment for the new year, free cleaning services will be provided for teachers and students.

At this very moment, both campuses of Tianjin University are adorned with festive decorations, brimming with the atmosphere of the Spring Festival. We wish everyone a peaceful and joyful year. Let's celebrate the Chinese Lunar New Year together and enjoy harmony and happiness!
