Part 1: Entry and Enrollment


Can international students enter China for the coming Fall semester?

The Chinese government has opened up the border to international students, and the University has also issued relevant materials to international students. The Fall semester at Tianjin University (TJU) will commence as scheduled. For visa matters, please consult the Chinese embassy in the host country.

I am a Peiyang Future Scholar Scholarship / Qiushi Scholarship / Tianjin Government Scholarship / Tianjin University Scholarship holder, does it mean tuition waiver for me? May I pay the tuition fee after I receive the tuition subsidy?

Except for Chinese Government Scholarship, the funding format of all other scholarships of Tianjin University is tuition fee subsidy rather than tuition waiver, tuition fee needs to be paid first before the disbursement of scholarship. If you cannot afford to pay, please apply to the School of International Education.


Do I need to purchase comprehensive medical insurance when studying in China?

According to the regulations of the Ministry of Education of China, all international students must purchase a comprehensive medical insurance during their studies in China. International students must purchase the insurance according to the regulations of China and requirements of university, otherwise they will not be allowed to register. All students must purchase the designated insurance according to the procedures before coming to China. For international students currently in China, they must buy the insurance.


What is the registration date for international students? What are the procedures? When will classes start and what will happen in the period between the two dates?

The registration date varies with different programs. After receiving the admission package, for degree program students and visiting students, they ought to register on August 24 and 25 from 9:00 am to 12:00 am and from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm at the following address.

For self-paid Chinese language students, self-paid foundation program students and scholarship Chinese language students, they ought to register on August 23 and 24 from 9:00 am to 12:00 am and from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm at the following address.

For CSC foundation program students, they ought to register on August 31 and September 1 from 9:00 am to 12:00 am and from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm at the following address.

Registration venue: 2nd floor, Multifunctional Hall, Liu Yuan, Tianjin University, 92 Weijin Road, Nankai District, Tianjin.

Those who are not able to arrive at Tianjin University within the specified time mentioned above, they shall register in School of International Education upon their arrival.

For CCN foundation program students, they ought to register on September 18.

Students shall prepare the originals of passport, admission notice, graduation certificate, diploma as well as the notarized copy with translation for verification.

For graduate students, undergraduate students and non-degree program students, classes will start on September 11, 2023.

For CCN foundation program students, classes will start on September 25, 2023.


What are the materials required for registration?

Students need to prepare the following materials for registration:

(1) Passport

(2) Admission notice

(3) JW201/202 Form

(4) Physical check form

(5) Original Copy of Graduation certificate and transcripts

(6) Application fee 420 RMB and comprehensive medical insurance fee 800 RMB

(7) 2 copies of the photo the same size as in the passport


Part 2: Accommodation Arrangements


When can I arrive at the campus and check in at the dorm?

Students can arrive at the campus on August 21 to check in the dorm.


Can I book my dormitory in advance? How can I book my dormitory in advance?

Only the following students who wish to check in at the Weijin Road Campus need to book their dormitories in advance: Including self-paid students and scholarship students who are not exempt from accommodation fees.

The Peiyangyuan Campus does not require advance reservation of dormitories.

The specific method for booking dormitories will be sent to everyone later. Please follow the notice and make dormitory reservations at the designated time.


Which campus should I go to check in? Which specific building is it?

Students can find out which campus to check in by querying the Attachment 1 which contains the accommodation campus corresponding to your professional college. (Students who need to learn Chinese firstly need to attend classes at the Weijin Road Campus.)

Weijin Road Campus: Please check the specific dormitory information at the reception of 51 Building firstly.

Peiyangyuan Campus:Please check in at Building 2 of Peiyang carat Hotel.


What are the materials required for registration?

You need to bring a registration form that was obtained at the reception after you checked in.


Can I live off campus? If it’s ok, what procedures need to be completed?

Students who need to pay dormitory fees can apply for off-campus accommodation. When registering, students can apply on-site with the teacher responsible for off campus accommodation. After registering, you can apply for off campus accommodation at 103 of the SIE Office Building. After approval, students can move to off-campus accommodation.


What room type is available for PhD students granted with free on-campus accommodation, single room or twin room?

Tianjin University provides twin room for PhD students granted with free on-campus accommodation.
