Reflections: benefits himself significantly during the Contest

Six years ago, I competed for the first time and took part in the Tianjin and the National Electrical Engineering Teaching Competition. This year, I was very fortunate to participate in the 6th National College Teaching Contest for Young scholars and won the first prize (second place) in the engineering group, which concluded my journey of lecture competition.

I earned my bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees in Tianjin University. After graduation, I chose to become a college teacher, hoping to pass on and carry forward the knowledge, skills and ideology I acquired from the school through teaching and cultivating students. My research is mainly about power system protection and control, and the principal courses I have taught since I started working areIntroduction to Electrical Engineering and Electrical Engineering Experiment for non-electrical engineering undergraduates.

Teaching is the most fundamental task for our teachers, and is a concrete manifestation of teaching and educating. After I started work, I attach great importance to teaching. In order to deliver an attractive lesson, I actively participate in various teaching competitions and learn from the excellent teachers. Taking teaching competitions as standards, I work with great efforts in every daily lesson, aiming at “promoting teaching with competitions and preparing competitions by teaching”. Finally, I have earned satisfactory results in the teaching supervision tracking of TJU, the National Electrical Engineering Teaching Competition and theNational College Teaching Contest for Young scholars. All of these competitions have benefited me greatly and improved my teaching ability, bringing wide praise from my students.

I was very excited to represent Tianjin and TJU in the National College Teaching Contest for Young scholars. In the meantime, I was also stressed. During the preparation, Tianjin Municipal Trade Union, our college and School helped and supported me greatly. I also asked my old classmates who had participated in the National Contest for advice on teaching design, presentation and reflection. Moreover, I modified my teaching design and presentation many times. Although the process of polishing and revising was not that easy, I could really tell the improvement of my ability and mentality, which I think is the very effect of a teaching competition.

Only my name is written on the certificate, but in fact the honor does not belong to me alone. I’d like to express my sincere thanks to Tianjin Municipal Trade Union, Tianjin University, the School of Electrical and Information Engineering and my family for being my strong backing all the time. I’d like to extend my thanks to all the leaders, experts, teachers and friends who have guided and encouraged me, and to all the students who have taken my classes and witnessed the continuous improvement of my teaching ability as well. The heartwarming words of my students on the evaluation form are an important source of happiness for me.

In the future, I will continue to move forward for working and living well and experience the communication between individuals in teaching and cultivating. Beyond that, I will inherit, explore and carry forward the spiritual character and glorious heritage of the outstanding master teachers' predecessors as well. Moreover, I will continue to make contributions to teaching and the development of the School of Electrical and Information Engineering and TJU.

Chen Xiaolong

Associate Professor of the School of Electrical and Information Engineering, Tianjin University

Deputy Director of Modern Electrical and Electronic Technology Center

He has presided over one project of the National Natural Science Youth Fund; He has published more than 20 SCI and EI papers as the first or corresponding author; He has undertook the teaching of “National First-class Undergraduate Courses”, which are Introduction to Electrical Engineering and Electrical Engineering Experiment; He has been awarded the first prize of Tianjin Technical Inventions, the first prize of National Higher College Competition on Electrical Engineering Courses for Young scholars Competition, the first prize of National Experimental Teaching Case Design Competition for Basic Electrical and Electronic Courses(Ding Yang Cup), and the first prize in the engineering group of the 16th Tianjin College Teaching Contest for Young scholars.

The National College Teaching Contest for Young scholars is also a profound practice of the School of Electrical and Information Engineering to adhere to the fundamental task of fostering virtue and cultivating talents and implement the guiding ideology of "cultivating students with all staff, in all stages and on all aspects; fostering students to who have all-round moral, intellectual, physical, and aesthetical grounding with a hard-working spirit ". It is as well as an important embodiment of the philosophy of "establishing deep foundation and pursuing innovation" and "undergraduate teaching-oriented" education. To organize Young scholars in the School to participate in this competition extensively is of great practical significance for improving the overall level of teaching and education.
