Happy Mid-Autumn Festival and Teacher’s Day!

 Arts and Culture

The Mid-Autumn Festival is one of the most important holidays in China. To celebrate the Mid-autumn Festival and Teacher’s Day, Tianjin University has made the moon cakes. The moon cakes at first sale, have become the top-selling items on campus and have been widely acclaimed by faculty, students and alumni.

This year, the Logistics Department of Tianjin University has released 19 different kinds of moon cakes with different stuffing and flavors, namely “the Full Moon on campus”. Besides, landmarks and cultural elements of Tianjin University, such as the university badge, motto, gate, among others, are integrated into the design of the moon cake and the packaging. There are four kinds of “TJU-made moon cake” gift boxes, including the themes of Reunion, classic university badge, the Cantonese-style, and low sugar.

This year, while retaining traditional fillings such as mixed nuts and lotus paste, the “TJU-made moon cake” combines the fashionable fillings processing craft with the traditional moon cake making techniques and launches several new products favored by young people: Cantonese moon cakes with Q fillings of lotus paste, Cantonese moon cakes with Q fillings of purple sweet potato, and moon cakes with Q fillings of chestnuts. Xiao Wang, an undergraduate of grade 2020 of the School of Electrical and Information Engineering, snapped up several pieces of moon cakes in the No. 4 canteen. He said, “The moon cakes in canteens are not expensive and are much cheaper than those on the market. They are rich in fillings, and many of them are popular on the Internet. All of them are very delicious.”

“Life needs rituals. An ordinary moon cake is also the mark of the long-standing and well-established traditional Chinese culture.” Wang Mengbin, Deputy Director of the Logistics Department of TJU, said, “we hope to convey the real and sincere atmosphere of the festival as well as the friendships between teachers and students through their favorite TJU-made moon cakes.”

This year, Mid-autumn Festival meets Teacher’s Day. Wish everyone a happy Mid-Autumn Festival and Teacher’s Day!
