 Campus

Over 7,500 new graduate students will receive admission letters from Tianjin University soon. The admission letters have been delivered through China Post Express Mail Service (EMS).

The cover of Tianjin University (TJU)’s admission letters this year presents a brilliant design, with a brand-new typography and a simple and refined style. The delicate admission cover from TJU features the landmark of the campus as the background image, signifying the aspiration for the present and future while learning from history.

The first seven new master's students in the interdisciplinary field of Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) will be enrolled this September. This starts the cultivation of both research-oriented and management-oriented high-level talents for the scientific protection of intangible heritage in China.

As a branch of cultural heritage research, the ICH discipline focuses on intangible cultural heritage as its research subjects and contents, along with its history, customs, aesthetic mode, value system, inheritors and the practice of scientific protection, inheritance and development. As an emerging interdisciplinary major, studies on ICH involve humanities, social science, and natural science, integrating theoretical research, field investigation, protection and management of ICH. Back to last October, the country's first postgraduate program in the interdisciplinary subject of ICH was approved by the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council. Since then, Feng Jicai Institute of Literature and Art (FILA) of Tianjin University has become a pilot institution to cultivate the first ICH postgraduates in China.

Since its establishment, the FILA has been taking proactive actions to associate its teaching and research contents with the most cutting-edge take of China's cultural heritage development. Up to now, there has been a series of characteristic teaching and research method related with ICH. At FILA, the faculty team with rich experience in teaching and research has been built; a teaching and research center for the subject of ICH has been established; an academic committee and a textbook compiling committee have been established, bringing together pre-eminent experts and scholars from all over China. In addition, the systematic specialized curriculum framework construction has kicked off, and the training program has been set up. The ICH postgraduates will take a full-time study for 2.5 years at FILA, and 30 graduate students are planned to be enrolled for the next three years. In the future, we will witness a group of professional talents, equipped with the capability of investigating and identifying, preserving, promoting and transforming ICH in China.
