Pan Jingzhou, Fu Liping: Give Play to the Role of Enterprises in Achieving Common Prosperity

 Research

With the continuous improvement of China's economy, the pace of common prosperity is also constantly advancing. We need cooperation and efforts in many aspects to achieve common prosperity. Both government and market are indispensable.

Enterprises are the main body of the market and the elemental composition of the economy. Enterprises can cooperate with governments and unite social forces. They have the solid subjective initiative in driving the upward mobility of low-income groups and constructing a social wealth structure that is inclusive and equitable. Therefore, enterprises should show greater responsibility. So how can they play a role in achieving common prosperity?

Associate Professor Pan Jingzhou is the Director of the Department of Organizational and Strategic Management, and Professor Fu Liping is the Dean of the Institute of Public Administration. Recently, they shared their views on how enterprises can participate in realizing common prosperity on Tianjin Daily, which pointed out the direction of enterprises' role in promoting common prosperity from multiple perspectives.

Promoting common prosperity is inseparable from the in-depth participation of enterprises. Enterprises are basic economic units engaged in operation and production to meet social needs and a vital force for expanding employment, improving people's livelihood, and promoting innovation.

First, enterprises should base themselves on their industries, strengthen their industries and achieve high-quality development. Enterprises are the main participants in market economic activities, the leading undertakers of social production and services, and a significant driving force for economic and social development. Therefore, the primary task of enterprises is to make the “cake” of common prosperity bigger and better by constantly liberating and developing productive forces, creating and accumulating social wealth, which is the basis for achieving common prosperity and is also the duty of enterprises engaged in production and operation activities. In this process, enterprises should adhere to high-quality development, build core competitiveness, and make ongoing efforts to strengthen production. Enterprises must base on their industry and persevere, not tempted by short-term interests. Enterprises should practice their internal skills, expand and improve their industries, and do not just follow the crowed or blindly expand. In the development process, enterprises should also carefully evaluate the domestic and international situation and the law of market changes, adhere to a reasonable layout, prudent investment, and steady development. Enterprises should avoid business risks and prevent huge losses and insolvency. In short, enterprises should contribute to maintaining a stable and healthy economic environment through high-quality products and business activities.

Enterprises should first establish a scientific and rational internal distribution system, complete the initial distribution well, and share the achievements of enterprise development with employees. On the premise of ensuring high-quality development, enterprises should improve the mechanism of moderate wage increase and enhance employee welfare security. At the same time, enterprises should pay attention to the coordination between efficiency and fairness, adhere to distribution according to work as the main body, and improve the distribution system according to factors. In addition, enterprises should operate legally, pay taxes following the law, and contribute to redistribution.

In promoting common prosperity, enterprises should attach great importance to scientific and technological innovation to promote the high-quality development of enterprises through innovation.

Enterprises should put their development in the context of common prosperity, carry out strategic upgrading, product and service innovation, and attach great importance on product research and development and scientific and technological innovation. In particular, private enterprises should develop in the direction of "specialization and innovation”, build core competitiveness, avoid blind expansion, and guide their development through innovation. At the same time, enterprises should also pay attention to the coordination between different regions, industries, and groups.
