Grand Prize Again:TJU Excels in Linuoruite Cup

 Research

From August 27th to 29th, the final of the 14th National University Social Practice and Science Contest on Energy Saving & Emission Reduction of 2021 "Linuoruite Cup" was held at Shandong University. Two hundred and forty-four energy-saving and emission-reduction technological innovation projects from 110 domestic universities gathered in Jinan to compete for the crown.

In this year's competition, five teams from TJU advanced to the finals. After three days of fierce competition, TJUers won 1 Grand Prize and 3 First Prizes with outstanding performance, and won the Excellent Organization Award.

The National University Social Practice and Science Contest on Energy Saving & Emission Reduction is a national university student discipline competition sponsored by the Department of Higher Education of the Ministry of Education. The theme of the competition is "energy conservation, emission reduction and green energy”. The competition expert committee is composed of domestic well-known experts and scholars, including academicians of the two academies, and a certain number of enterprise experts.

It is reported that since the competition was launched in March this year, the number of participating universities exceeded 500 for the first time, and the number of directly participating students broke through 30,000. The organizing committee of the competition received a total of 5201 valid works from 514 universities. According to the needs of epidemic prevention and control, the final part of the competition was carried out in a combination of online and offline ways. Energy-saving and emission-reduction works involving energy, machinery, resources, construction, electrical, ocean and many other fields appeared in the "Cloud Exhibition Hall".

In the final round, each team first gave a physical demonstration and then went through a group defense. There are 10 pieces of grand prizes (0.19%), 112 pieces of first prizes (2.11%), 121 pieces of second prizes (2.38%), and 1035 pieces of third prizes. As of this year, Tianjin University has been the winner of the first prize and above in this competition for 7 consecutive years.

Grand Prize from Tianjin University:

"Rilifengqing"( It means bright sunlight provides abundant hydrogen) -- hydrogen production unit based on PV and PEMEC

Directors: Li Wenjia, Zhao Jun from the School of Mechanical Engineering

Developers: Su Shangchun, Huang Zhixin, Chen Keyi, Even Ran, Ou Wennan, Zhong Yuzhao, and Zhang Jiaqi

Brief Introduction: The work combines photovoltaic power generation with electrolytic hydrogen production, and introduces temperature difference power generation elements for the graded utilization of photovoltaic waste heat. It improves the efficiency of hydrogen production and realizes the whole process of carbon-free green hydrogen production. The work can be applied to various scenarios such as the roof of hydrogen refueling stations and open-air parking lots to assist in the construction of local hydrogen fuel supply systems.

First prize:

"Light Chaser" - vegetable greenhouses in cold and high altitude in Tibet

Directors: Zhao Jun, Shi Yuqi, Li Yang from the School of Mechanical Engineering

Developers: Wang Chunyu, Li Xinling, Cui Guoqing, Yu Zihan, Wang Jianmin, Wang Jinyu, and Zou Jiayi

Brief Introduction: The work can track the sun's altitude and azimuth at the same time to provide heat for the greenhouse and reduce pollution. In non heating seasons, solar panels in the greenhouse absorb solar energy and store it in shallow soil. In the heating season, heat pump unit and intelligent control system are combined to provide heat for the greenhouse. After the work is promoted in cold and high-altitude areas, it can solve the problem of local vegetable supply and effectively improve the local people's livelihood.

First prize:

"Wanjialuhuo"—Household Gas Stove Heat Insulation and Energy Concentration System

Directors: Li Jun, Xu Yuanxin from the School of Mechanical Engineering

Developers: Wang Yurong, Zhou Yumeng, Long Huiwu, Meng Yizhen, Li Zekang, Gao Zhen, and Dong Haomiao

Brief Introduction: The team designed a new type of heat-insulating energy-gathering system based on the existing concept of energy accumulation circle of gas stove. The system is composed of an energy gathering ring and a heat insulation ring. The hollow design of the energy gathering ring and the innovative opening shape can reduce heat conduction and promote combustion; the heat insulation ring is installed on the energy gathering ring, which can restrain the flow of high temperature flue gas and enhance convection heat exchange between high temperature flue gas and the side wall of the cooker, fully improving the efficiency of heat utilization. The work is in great prospect of application and market promotion, providing a more economical and greener solution for residents to achieve the goal of energy saving and emission reduction.

First prize:

"Xureyidai" —Improved Design of Small Methanol Melting Aluminium Furnace

Directors: Zhao Jun, Wang Heyang from the School of Mechanical Engineering, and Yang Yongning from Shanxi Yuneng Technology Development Co., Ltd

Developers: Chen Yu, Jiang Nan, Wei Zengchun, Wang Mingxuan, Liu Fengze, sun Jingrong, and Li Zhuohang

Brief Introduction: This work takes the existing small methanol reflection aluminum melting furnace in the market as the research object. Aiming at problems such as slow cold start and serious flue gas heat loss, a new type of methanol regenerative aluminum melting furnace is designed. The design of methanol high-temperature dual-fluid burner and switchable heat storage system has significantly improved thermal efficiency and reduced pollutant emissions, and has strong economic and technical competitiveness and promotion value.

It is reported that in 2022 TJU will host the 15th Energy Conservation and Emission Reduction Competition.
