On August 18, the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) announced some of the approved NSFC projects in 2021. Three hundred and forty-two programs from Tianjin University were funded. Among them, there are 195 General Programs, 10 key programs, 111 Youth programs, 2 programs of the Science Fund for Creative Research Groups 5 programs under the list of National Science Foundation for Distinguished Young Scholars, and 13 Excellent Young Scientists Fund projects,, with a total direct funding of 243 million Yuan, which hit a record high.

This year, NSFC received a total of 276,715 project applications, and funded a total of 45,681 programs of various types, except for those under review or in the approval process. The overall funding rate reaches 16.51%. Tianjin University has submitted 1,262 programs during the specified acceptance period.

It is reported that major instrument development projects, joint fund projects, major projects, major research plan projects are still in the process of evaluation.
