Prof. Jiubin Chen from the School of Earth System Science has been appointed by Prof. Jeffrey Catalano, the editor-in-chief of Geochimica et Cosmochimica Acta (GCA), as the associate editor of the journal since Jan 1, 2021.

Geochimica et Cosmochimica Acta is a biweekly peer-reviewed scientific journal published by Elsevier. It was established in 1950 and is sponsored by the Geochemical Society and the Meteoritical Society. GCA has a high academic reputation in the international geosciences area and is one of the Nature Index journals.

Prof. Jiubin Chen mainly works on metal isotope geochemistry, with a focus on the method development, fractionation mechanisms and potential application of metalisotopes in various surface environments. He developed methods for purifying Zn, Hg, Ga and Sb from geological matrix for precise isotope analysis. The application of these methods allows for achieving new acknowledges on the fractionation mechanism of variable metal isotopes during environmental processes such as precipitation and adsorption, and on the sources and transformations of these metals in rivers, lakes, atmosphere, and even glaciers. He published many papers in high-level academic journals, such as NC, GCA, AC, Geology, ES&T, EPSL, and serves as the associate editor of "Applied Geochemistry". Prof. Jiubin Chen won the International Association of Geochemistry (IAGC) Kharaka Award in 2018. He also serves as the Chinese director of the Sino-French Joint Landscape Dynamics Laboratory (LIA-Saladyn).
