 Global

Recently, the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) announced the 2019-2020 Outstanding Student Chapter Award winners. Tianjin University Student Chapter of AIChE has won this award for the fourth consecutive year since its establishment in 2016. It is the only mainland Student Chapter to receive this honor.

In order to reward the outstanding contributions of AIChE Student Chapters in subject exchanges and regional activities, the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) selects a small number of outstanding Student Chapters from more than 200 Student Chapters around the world to award each year. Among these outstanding student clubs, the names of Student Chapters outside of North America rarely appear.

Tianjin University Student Chapter of AIChE was established in August 2016. It is a member of the International Student Chapter of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers and one of the first Student Chapters established in China. Professor Gong Jinlong from the School of Chemical Engineering and Technology, also the Vice President of Tianjin University, serves as the Chapter instructor.

In November 2016, the first chairman Liao Wenjie led 14 team members to San Francisco to participate in the 2016 AIChE Student Annual Meeting and the Global Chem-E-Car Competition. It was the first time for Mainland students to participate in the Chem-E-Car Competition.

In October of the same year, in the Chem-E-Car competition in Minnesota, USA, TJU Student Chapter’s entry 'Pegasus' won the 'Golden Tyre Award' and the 'SAChE Safety Award' in one fell swoop.

In June 2017, Tianjin University Student Chapter of AIChE introduced the international competition to China, and assisted Tianjin University’s School of Chemical Engineering and Technology and the Chemical Industry and Engineering Society of China to successfully hold three Chinese College Student Chem-E-Car Competitions in a row.

It is learnt that Tianjin University Student Chapter of AIChE will help organize the 4th Chinese College Student Chem-E-Car Competition in 2020, which will start online in mid-November.
