Huo Jierong, an undergraduate student majoring in Applied Physics at the School of Science graduated this summer. He has obtained a recommendation to pursue his graduate study at Tsinghua University’s Department of Physics, specializing in computational experiment for topological quantum.

Since he entered Tianjin University in 2016, he has the clear idea in mind that he will be a man of science who has a great passion for physics and who is determined to devote himself wholeheartedly to scientific research. Huo holds firm to the belief that thinking is the greatest pleasure of mankind and a most treasurable asset for academic study. He once threw himself into an academic issue and tried to crack down the problem for three days without doing anything else. “Then one night, all of a sudden, an idea struck me like a lightening across a night sky. Bingo, I found my way out and solved the problem. You cannot imagine the overwhelming joy and excitement I felt then. It is marvelous. I deem it as the magic of science. That’s why I love science so much,” Huo said.

No doubt, Huo Jierong excelled in the academic study and earned a lot of prizes, like CASC Scholarship, the first prize of CUPT (China Undergraduate Physics Tournament), CAS (Chinese Academy of Sciences) Scholarship for Undergraduate and other 11 prizes. In the summer of 2019, he joined Tsinghua University’s Summer Camp for selecting doctoral candidates and successfully gained the admission.

Looking back at his four years at TJU,Huo Jierong said:" Your dream may cheat you, but never will your efforts to pursue it”. He believed that planning and execution are two points to make one's college life meaningful. “Planning determines our goals, and execution determines our results”, Huo noted.
