On June 13, 2020, Lei Ming, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Tianjin University, was appointed as the Deputy Director of the State Key Laboratory of Communication Content Cognition at People’s Daily during the Laboratory's Second Meeting of the First Academic Committee and Symposium held in Beijing.

At the meeting, Xu Zhengzhong, President of the Council of the Laboratory and Deputy Chief Editor of People’s Daily pointed out that the development of the laboratory should adhere to the demand-oriented principle, give play to advantages of all parties and make concerted efforts in scientific research. During the event, the laboratory appointed Zheng Qinghua, Vice President of Xi’an Jiaotong University, Lei Ming, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Tianjin University, Xu Xiaofei, Vice President of Harbin Institute of Technology, and Chen Yunji, assistant to the director of the Institute of Computing Technology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, as deputy directors of the laboratory. Xu Zhengzhong awarded letters of appointment to them.

At the meeting, the Academic Committee heard and deliberated the Work Report as well as the First Phase Research Plan (Draft) of the State Key Laboratory of Communication Content Cognition.

In the afternoon, an academic symposium was held by the laboratory. Six experts from universities and industry leaders made academic reports to discuss the development trend and challenges in the application of AI, big data and other cutting-edge technologies.
