【On the Two Sessions】Tianjin University’s Teachers and Students Talk about Two Sessions

 The Two Sessions

On May 21, the third session of the 13th Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) opened, and on May 22, the third session of the 13th National People’s Congress (NPC) opened. The teachers and students of Tianjin University paid close attention to the ongoing of the two sessions.

Li Jiajun, a deputy to the National People's Congress and Secretary of the Party Committee of Tianjin University,, stated: “Premier Li Keqiang pointed out in his report that this year, we must give priority to stabilizing employment and ensuring living standards, win the battle against poverty, and achieve the goal of building a moderately prosperous society in all aspects. Tianjin University will strengthen its responsibility, coordinating the epidemic prevention and control with the school development, implementing the mission of fostering virtue through education in regular COVID-19 prevention and control. We will do everything we can to help graduates with their employment, and strive to build a world-class socialist university with Chinese characteristics and Tianjin University character.”

Jin Donghan, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and President of Tianjin University, said: “Premier Li Keqiang specifically pointed out in the government work report that ‘This year, we will formulate the 14th Five-Year Plan, thus drawing the blueprint for us to embark on a new journey toward the second Centenary Goal. 'At present, Tianjin University is in a critical period of building a word-class socialist university with Chinese characteristics and Tianjin University character, we will fully understand and comprehensively implement the spirit of Two Sessions. We will effectively implement the fundamental task of fostering virtue through education, to strengthen the characteristic education and connotation construction and make greater achievements in the comprehensive education system. We will achieve greater success in regular COVID-19 prevention and control. We will accelerate the cultivation of high-quality talents with Tianjin University characteristics to promote the solid construction of a world-class university, and to provide a strong talents support for the realization of the Two Centenary Goals and the Chinese Dream of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.”

Feng Cuiling, secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Pharmaceutical and Technology, Tianjin University, said: “The Two Sessions of 2020 are meant to be unusual. Faculty and students of Tianjin University pay close attention to the two sessions, and we feel very proud and excited. Today, after listening to the government work report made by Premier Li Keqiang, I am inspired and more confident about the development of China. Our country has won a major victory against the COVID-19 epidemic, what a great feat! I am very grateful to live in such a great country. I will learn the spirit of the Two Sessions, and work hard to make contributions to the building of Tianjin University into a world-class university, the building of a moderately prosperous society in all respects, and the realization of the Chinese dream.”

Yan Xiaofeng, Dean of School of Marxism, Tianjin University, said: “The Two Sessions are held at the time when the COVID-19 control has made major achievements. It is a mobilization that aims to accomplish the targets and tasks for winning the battle against poverty, and complete the building of a moderately prosperous society in all respects. The Two Sessions are held at the time when China is faced with the unprecedented impacts and challenges brought by the epidemic. I t is an oath-taking rally in order to overcome the difficulties and to fight against risks wholeheartedly. The Two Sessions are held at the time when the global epidemic continues to spread, which embodies China’s strength, spirits and efficiency. I t is a story-telling conference which improves China’s international influence, appeal, and force.”

Sun Youhai, Dean of Tianjin University Law School and vice president of the Environmental and Resources Protection Law Association, said: “The current global situation of COVID-19 epidemic and economy are still grim and complex. China will face challenges like never before. Although we are faced with temporary difficulties, the impact of the epidemic will not shake the solid foundation of China’s long-term development. China is a great nation, and we have never surrendered to the disasters. We are united and ambitious. No one can stop the solid paces of China’s advancement. All the faculty and students from Tianjin University will take the initiative and active actions, maintain a sound momentum, and win new victories under the strong leadership of the CPC (Communist Party of China) Central Committee with General Secretary Xi as the core.”

Liu Shuang from the Medical College, said, “Confronted by the outbreak of COVID-19, with General Secretary Xi Jinping at its core, the CPC Central Committee has put people’s life and health first. With President Xi's guidance and deployment, Chinese have forged extraordinary synergy in the fight. The success of the two sessions proved that Chinese have made obvious progress in this fight,which embodies China’s strength, spirits and efficiency. As young teachers, we should not only fight against this COVID-19, but alsofoster virtue through education, cultivate talents for China’s development, and nurture a new generation of capable young people.”

Tianjin University’s Professor Qi Juntong said:”Over the last grim and complex year, we confronted with numerous difficulties, and have made great progress including preventing and controlling the pandemic, fostering new economic engine as well as alleviating poverty. As far as a teacher’s concerned, I have realized that our country has enhanced scientific and technological and innovative power, advocated the “double first-class” initiative, protected intellectual property rights (IPR), guided market sectors to invest more on research and development, and built some pilots of mass entrepreneurship and innovation. All of those, I think, will underpin China’s high-quality development in the future.”

Professor Wei Jianxin from Law School said: “We should realize that national and social development is and will be confronted with tremendous pressure. Therefore, we should arrive at a nationwide synergy and consensus, develop our country in this tough time, and overcome all difficulties. The Two Sessions agenda’s topics incorporate national economy and budget, China's draft civil code as well as the legal system and enforcement mechanisms to safeguard national security. Those topics are significant for domestic and international situation as well as current and future development.”

Wang Heng, a young teacher from the School of Marxism, said that, “China is in the final push to shake off poverty and build a moderately prosperous society in all respect. At this historical crunch, 2020’s Two Sessions will, through the democratic politics with Chinese characteristics, improve and embody Chinese systems’ strength, fostering a synergy to prevent and control the pandemic and promote economic society development, guiding Chinese people to pursue the well-off life, and diving worldwide people to realize economic stability and development.”

Shang Jie, director of the Office of Student Affairs at the College of Management and Economics, pointed out, “Due to unusual situation in 2020, the Two Sessions are important for synergizing COVID-19 pandemic prevention and control and economic society development. In this period, I have seen that China, in a spirit of solidarity, has built a Great Wall to protect people’s safety and health. Our faculty and students also have contributed themselves to this fight. I believe we, with the nationwide efforts, will finally overcome the COVID-19 and alleviate poverty.”

Zhao Shuhang, Deputy Director of the Office of Student Affairsat the School of Chemical Engineering and Technology, said: “Primer Li pointed out that at present and for some time to come, China will face challenges like never before. This pandemic has shocked Chinese economic and social development. However, Chinese people in unity, have coordinated pandemic control and economic and social development by Chinese specifically political and institutional advantages. As university teachers, we will continue to implement the regular epidemic response mechanisms and constantly guide graduates to choose a proper career. I convince, if we rise up to challenge and strengthen confidence through solidarity and credible actions, we will victory this pandemic and embrace a promising development.”

Xia Fengshun, a master’s student from the School of Chemical Engineering and Technology, said, “Through all these efforts, we, all the sons and daughters of the Chinese nation, have stood together in the most trying of times and built a Great Wall of solidarity against the epidemic. This has moved me. As a student who is about to be a civil servant to the grassroot, I will remember my mission and TJU’s motto of ‘Seeking Truth from Facts’, and make concerted efforts to realize the two centenary goals and national rejuvenation.”

Lian Boyang, a master’s student from the College of Intelligence and Computing, pointed out that, “At this crunch, the Two Sessions are successfully held, with combined national development visions and domestic goals. The national affairs discussed by representatives reflect the realization of personal happiness for Chinese people. I believe that Chinese development vision will be drawn, deputies’ marvelous proposals will drive high-quality development, and China will overcome all difficulties to realize its rejuvenation.”
