Dr. Xun Yu’s Paper Accepted by Duke Math. J.

 Research

A paper written by Dr. Xun Yu, an associate professor from Tianjin University’s School of Mathematics together with Professor Keiji Oguiso from the University of Tokyo has recently been accepted by the Duke Mathematical Journal, one of the world's leading mathematical journals under the title of Minimum positive entropy of complex Enriques surface automorphisms (link: https://arxiv.org/abs/1807.09452).

Automorphisms of algebraic surfaces are closely related to complex dynamics and number theory, and such relations are extensively studied by many researchers in the last two decades. An important issue in the area is to determine the minimum positive entropy of complex surface automorphisms in each class of the Enriques-Kodaira classification of complex surfaces. Introducing a new positivity criterion and a new notion of Enriques quadruple, the paper by Oguiso and Yu determines the minimum positive entropy of complex Enriques surface automorphisms.

Dr. Xun Yu received his Ph.D. from the Ohio State University in 2013, under the supervision of Prof. Herb Clemens. After that, he obtained a postdoctoral positionat Max Planck Institute for Mathematics in Bonn and at Center for Geometry and its Applications of Pohang University of Science and Technology. In 2016, he started to work at Tianjin University as an associate professor, and in 2019, Dr Yu received the 2019 JMSJ (the Journal of the Mathematical society of Japan) Outstanding Paper Prize.
