Nurses Fighting the COVID-19 Epidemic in Tianjin University’s Haihe Hospital

 Campus

There is a group of people working around the clock. We call them nurses. They are angels without wings. Every time they fight against the disease, we will see their persistent figures day and night without ceasing.

In fighting the novel COVID-19, the angels of the Haihe Hospital have been fearless and tireless. On May 12th we commemorate the 109th international nurse's day, and salute all the nurses on the front lines of health care. They have been working hard!

This is what an "angel" looks like.

The nurses at Tianjin University’s Haihe Hospital go to work and prepare to enter the work area.

Putting on medical protective clothing is the most important process before entering the contaminated area. Nurses stand in front of the mirror to check proper wear of the mask.

There is a very strict procedure for putting on medical protective clothing. Usually one nurse assists two colleagues in donning their protective clothes.

A complete medical protective ensemble has three layers. With gloves, foot covers, and goggles, it takes at least ten to twenty minutes to dress completely.

With the full equipment, nurses have to go through three doors before arriving at the contaminated area.

Entering the ward, the nurses check the medical supplies and equipment required for the work. The medical supplies and equipment are very abundant, and every patient can be treated carefully and adequately.

The nurse is explaining how to use the pager to the patient who was just admitted to the hospital, so that the patient can contact the medical staff in times when they feel unwell.

In the treatment interval, nurses teach some basic nursing exercises, so as to enhance the patients’ resistance as well as increase their appetite through increased exercises.

The nurses of Haihe Hospital hold out their thumbs to cheer a patient who was over the age of antiquity and praise him for his excellent recovery. The nursing work not only pays attention to the patients' physical condition, but also their mental condition.

As the nurse passed the window of the ward, the patient who was recovering also held out his thumb to praise the hard-working medical workers.

The corridor on the other side of the ward is full of medical equipment and supplies, and nurses are delivering some necessary medical supplies. Some simple work in three layers of protective clothing, become some difficult. What could have been done in half an hour would have taken about an hour.

The thick protective clothing and the heat-soaked goggles prevent the nurses from recognizing anyone, often by voice, to identify the close colleagues around them.

Some of the recovered patients wrote down their words of comfort and cheer and pasted them on the glass when they left the hospital.

Thank you, loveliest of people.

Late at night, quiet, the patients are resting. The work of the "angels" never ends.
