World's Largest Earthquake Simulation Research Facility to Complete Foundation Engineering by the End of September

 Campus

In October 2019, construction of the world's largest seismic simulation research facility commenced on Tianjin University’s Peiyangyuan Campus. Currently, this project has come to the key period of transition between the completion of earthwork excavation and the construction of the foundation slab. It is expected that by the end of September 2020, the foundation beneath the building of the core experimental center of the project, will be completed.

After completion, it will enhance China’s natural disaster detection capability.

"After completion, this research facility, where I stand now, will be able to simulate the seismic effect of a seven-story building. The facility can also simulate the effective load carrying capability under the joint action of earthquake, secondary tsunami, flood and other disasters, contributing to the safety of the construction of major projects such as cross-sea bridges, super-long tunnels, large-scale water conservancy and hydropower projects, submarine pipelines, offshore wind power plants, offshore platforms, and large nuclear power stations, etc. It substantially improves the comprehensive detection capability against natural disasters. I felt it a great honor to be one of the builders of this world's largest earthquake simulation research facility. " the chief engineer of the project Yu Haishen said.
