CoME Student Sings in Praise of Epidemic Prevention and Control Efforts

With integrating efforts, the nation has successfully contained the epidemic outbreak. To encourage people in their fight against the virus, the university Chorus—Peiyang Chorus released a new song "Hand in Hand" in April, paying special tributes to medical workers, volunteers, grassroots workers, and people in public service. The lead singer of this song is Zi-zhuo Zhou, a sophomore from the College of Management and Economics (CoME).

Zhou started to play piano when he was five years old, and began to learn about vocal music since high school.

“When I first started learning, I thought about singing techniques, but later I was more concerned with processing emotional issues. Now I can sing wherever I go with friends who study vocal music, and I can even sing in the mall,” Zhou said.

He used to have nervous problems five minutes before he went up on the stage. “As I performed more, I overcame this problem. Like everyone else interested in art and music, I have a special passion for performance on the stage. You stand there, look at the lights, the music starts, you begin to sing with it and then you get lost in the world of music in a drunk-like state. People go beyond themselves, which is really amazing.”

Zhou won first prizes in the 12th and 13th Chongqing Primary and Secondary School Vocal Competitions (High School Group). In 2017, he participated in the China-Japan-Korea KJC International Vocal Competition and won the first place in the Adult Vocal Competition in China. He once served as the head of the Choir of Chongqing No.1 Secondary School, participating in various solo activities and competitions on behalf of the school.

“I draw strength from music. Whenever I felt low, I would go to the music classroom to play the piano and sing. Music is powerful in that it reaches out to your soul, brings out things and emotions deep down in your heart and connects you to people who understand music and then who understand you.” Zhou noted.
