In the newly released list of 2019 national and provincial first-class undergraduate programs by the Ministry of Education of People’s Republic of China, the Mathematics and Applied Mathematics Program at the School of Mathematics was included along with 18 other undergraduate programs of Tianjin University.

The School of Mathematics develops its majors on the foundations of mathematics and focuses on cross integration with data science. A general training mode of students is established to cultivate top mathematical talents in compound mathematics.

Focusing on data science, the School has gathered well-known scholars in discrete mathematics, algebraic geometry, probability statistics, control optimization and other fields to form a high-level teaching team. A number of papers have been published in well-known journals such asJ.Eur.Math.SocandNature Phy., and the National Science Fund it receives on the whole has continued to grow. Face recognition, image stitching and other technologies developed by the scholars are applied to products. The School also boasts of a Center for Applied Mathematics which as a research and student training center help cultivate outstanding mathematical talents.
