Chinese Wood-Block New Year Pictures Class Enters Tianjin University

On November 17, just after 8 a.m. Wu Kefan, a student from the School of Foreign Languages and Literature, entered the Yangliuqing Wood-Block New Year Picture Heritage Center located in Peiyangyuan Campus of Tianjin University, looking forward to the wonderful course. After finishing the preparations, she colored the printed New Year’s Picture, Liannian Youyu (meaning rich and have a surplus in the successive years) under the guidance of the teacher. This semester, Wu Kefan and other students will fully experience the entire traditional manufacturing process of New Year pictures including; sketching, engraving, printing, painting and mounting within the unique Chinese-style studio. Additionally, after completion of the course, students can earn 2 credits.

Founded in 2016, the Yangliuqing Chinese Wood-block New Year Picture Heritage Center in Tianjin University is amongst the first of the Ministry of Education’s Chinese excellent cultural and artistic heritage center education. Grounded in extracurricular classes, this center has become the formal class in the fall semester, and has also offered the public a course entitled, "Heritage and Colored Drawing of Yangliuqing Chinese Wood-block Pictures", which was jointly taught by Huo Qingshun, the national successor of Yangliuqing New Year pictures, and the inheritor Zhang Hong.
