The Tianjin University Conference on Comprehensive Reform of Talent Cultivation successfully concluded on December 9, 2019.
Li Jiajun, Party Secretary of Tianjin University, noted that the fundamental issues of education were “what, how and why” questions in talent cultivation. This conference stayed true to the original aspiration and mission of the university and highlighted the fundamental task of cultivating talents with high moral standards. Comprehensive reform of talent cultivation leads and drives other reforms including the adjustment of disciplines and programs, innovation of organizational modes of scientific research and personnel systems. Various reforms should focus on overall improvement of the ability of talent training based on the fundamental task of cultivating talents with high moral standards.
The conference also held extensive study and discussion sessions. Suggestions were shared on implementing the, “Five Excellences,” faculty team development, curriculum system, evaluation and assessment, organizational guarantee, and other aspects. The academic schools conducted innovative and comprehensive reform aligned with the “Three Involvements” and “Five Excellences” and accumulated lots of good experience and best-practices.
Jin Donghan, President of Tianjin University, said that the effect of the meeting depends on the implementation of measures proposed at it. Problems put forward at the meeting should be further studied and solved, reasonable opinions and suggestions should be fully summarized and refined, and proposed reforms should be fully implemented. After the meeting, the team who drafted the document should be the team who facilitates the implementation of the document. With the discussion results of the meeting, the document on implementing the fundamental task of cultivating talents with high moral standards and promoting comprehensive reform of talent cultivation, as well as relevant supporting documents should be improved and released based on discussions held at the meeting.
At the meeting, Gong Jinlong, vice president of Tianjin University, Cui Zhenduo, dean of the Office of Science and Technology, Zheng Gang, executive vice dean of the Graduate School, Han Qinhua, party secretary and dean of the School of Civil Engineering, Ma Kaixue, dean of the School of Microelectronics, Wang He, teacher of the School of Architecture, Cheng Siyu, teacher of the School of Marxism, and Liu Tiegen, teacher of the School of Precision Instruments and Opto-Electronics Engineering, delivered keynote speeches on undergraduate cultivation, the role of scientific research and supervisors in education, etc.
