Tianjin University Holds Campus Canteen Cooking Competition

 Arts and Culture

On November 15, Tianjin University's 2019 annual Cooking Competition was held in the Peiyangyuan Campus Liuyuan Canteen. During the event, a Student Practice Center was also established.

This competition attracted 12 teams from the canteens on both campuses to participate. The competition was divided into four events, including knife skills, creative pastry making, food safety knowledge, and main dish cooking. In addition, Liang Yan, a national five-star pastry chef was specially invited to make Go Believe steamed buns on the spot, in order to promote Tianjin cuisine to students on campus.

The atmosphere was quite dynamic. More than 60 players showed their skills in the competition. Two hours later, " shrimp balls", "five-flavored fish ", " stewed pork spareribs with vegetables", "higher and higher (pork ribs fried with bamboo shoots)" and other delicacies were presented one after another. The judging panel, composed of guests, professional judges and faculty and student representatives, voted for the winners on the spot. The leaders and guests gave awards to the winners respectively.

A student from the School of Chemical Engineering and Technology shared his feelings about two "unexpecteds”, "Unexpectedly, the first Go Believe steamed bun I ate was one I had prepared. I will bring back my handiwork to share with my roommates and classmates. It is also a surprise that there were not only senior cooks, but also five-star pastry chefs in our canteens. And they are all very good at cooking! It’s such a joy to study in Tianjin University!”
