On November 5th and 6th, the 11thannual Chinese and Japanese University President Forumwas hosted by Waseda University in Tokyo. In attendance were 18 Chinese universities, including Peking University, Tsinghua University, Zhejiang University and Fudan University, 19 Japanese universities such as the University of Tokyo, Osaka University, Kyoto University and Waseda University, as well as 6 government organizations and academic institutions that included the Chinese Embassy in Japan,the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technologyof Japan and the National University Association.

The subject matter for this year’s event included: “exploring the role of universities in the process of higher education globalization” and “exploring the cooperative education and research mode in Asia”. Extensive exchanges and in-depth discussions were achieved, which included conversations about their own practices, and suggestions regarding the friendly exchanges of higher education between the two countries.

Tianjin University representative Tan Xin attended the forum and held talks respectively with Osaka University, Waseda University and Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) on inter-university cooperation. The two sides reached an agreement on the further strengthening of exchanges between teachers and students, scientific research cooperation and international joint technology transformation.

The “Chinese and Japanese University Presidents Forum” is jointly sponsored by Peking University and Tokyo University, aimed at further promoting cultural exchanges between China and Japan, and strengthening substantive exchanges and cooperation between universities of the two countries. With great success, the forum has been since 2000, becoming one of the cooperation platforms of high-level exchange in the field of higher education. The Ministry of Education of China and the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan attach great importance to the forum in accordance with the five-year plan for educational exchange. According to the regulations of this forum, the 12th Chinese and Japanese University President Forum will be held in Sun Yat-sen University, China in 2021.
