On November 10, the first ‘China-ASEAN University Rowing Event–2019 Rowing Dynamometer Competition’, was hosted by Tianjin University and the Tianjin Municipal Education Commission and co-sponsored by Tianjin Normal University. The event was held at the Tianjin University Weijin Road Campus Gymnasium, along with TJU’s own twelve international students from the School of International Education, who formed the” Tianda International Education” team to participate in the competition.

Ten (10) teams from the Excellence 9 (an alliance of 9 excellent universities), ACNET-EngTech and Tianjin municipality took part in the event. The Tianjin University team was comprised of 4 girls and 8 boys who came from eight different countries and covered different grades and majors. During the competition, TJU’s team worked together with precision and calm, and received loud applause for their fighting spirit and fortitude. The team brought home the Team Excellence Prize for the relay race. TJU team member Abdu from Yemen grabbed eighth place in the men’s 2000 meters, which proved to be a historical breakthrough for the international students’ Rowing Dynamometer Competition.

Team captain Li Lianjie, an overseas student form Tajikistan. said, “Although our team took part in the rowing race for the first time, all the team members spared no efforts. We greatly appreciate the support and encouragement from our school teachers. We will take part in more competitions in the future, and I believe we can achieve more success if we stick to it.”
