On November 15, 2019, the ceremony of the Structural Awards 2019 was held in London, England. The Millet Vinegar Museum, designed by Tianjin University Research Institute of Architectural Design and Urban Planning, won the Gold Award for Small Projects of under £3 million.

Led by Ding Yongjun, consultant chief engineer of Tianjin University Research Institute of Architectural Design and Urban Planning, the design team of the Millet Vinegar Museum, comprised of other three members including Meng Xiangliang, Wang Lei and Sun Yao, attended the award ceremony.

Judge commented on the project of Millet Vinegar Museum that: “While in some ways this may be seen as a traditional structure, the engineers’ approach to the design was evidently meticulous and bold. The dome is in the highly seismic Shangdong Province area of China. The engineers were clearly resistant to the temptation to betray the pure brick form with steel or other ductile fixings. Instead, they relied on their confidence, borne of accurate and considered analysis and optimisation of the dome shape, to resist lateral forces.”

The Structural Awards has been sponsored by the Institution of Structural Engineers since 1968 to raise awareness among people of structural engineers as public safety guards as well as creative and innovative design professionals by recognizing the world's most talented structural designers, and demonstrating the projects that lead the industry. The award-winning projects in history include the Opera House in Sydney, the Centre Pompidou in Paris, and the Severn Bridge in Wales. It ushers its 52nd this year.
