TJU Efforts in Cultural Heritage Preservation Presented at International Expo in Shanghai

The 3rd Heritage Preservation International Expo-Shanghai was held from 31 Oct – 2 Nov with the theme of “Working together for heritage preservation and social development”.

Tianjin University was invited to participate in this Shanghai Exposition. Tianjin University's Key Scientific Research Base of Historic Building Survey and Recording collected relevant research achievements and cultural heritage preservation practices carried out by eleven Tianjin University Research Institutes or teaching teams, namely the Tianjin University Research Institute of Architectural Design & Urban Planning, the teaching team of Architectural History and Theoretical Research Institution, the Information Technology Key laboratory for Architectural Culture Inheritance Culture Ministry of China, the International Research Center for Chinese Cultural Heritage Conservation, the China’s Traditional Village Protection and Development Research Center, the teaching team of Field Trip for Measured Survey of Ancient Buildings, the Visualized Fire Detection Laboratory, the Yangshi Lei Research Team, the Spatial Humanities and Places Computation Laboratory, the Architectural heritage information VR Lab, and the Technical Support Team for Architectural Heritage Conservation.

Tianjin University's exhibit during the expo gave a full display to its research strengths in relevant areas with fruitful research achievements, various conservation projects, and long-standing education tradition.

The research about architectural heritage at Tianjin University started in 1941. The predecessors inherited the ideology of architectural history study initiated by the Society for the Study of Chinese Architecture established in 1930. The research teams aim to explore the traditional ingenuity of Chinese construction, and the theoretical and the practical system of architectural heritage preservation.
