A total of 94 optical scientists worldwide were elected as fellows of the American Optical Society (OSA Fellow), of which 15 were Chinese scientists. Professor Dai Jianming from Tianjin University’s School of Precision Instruments and Optoelectronics Engineering, was among the 15 Chinese scientists.

Prof. Dai Jianming has long been engaged in the research of terahertz science and technology, and has made outstanding achievements in the research of broadband terahertz wave generation, detection, remote sensing and terahertz spectroscopy. He also invented the ultra-wideband terahertz detection technology (THz-ABCD system). Prof. Dai’s work has been highly recognized. He won the second prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award, first and second prize of the Ministry of Education Science and Technology Progress and possesses five US patents.
