Tianjin University to Establish Intelligent Medical Engineering Center

On October 31, the Ministry of Education officially announced the 2019 list of projects for the Engineering Research Centers. Tianjin University received approval to establish the Intelligent Medical Engineering Center of the Ministry of Education. This facility is expected to become a world leading platform for technological innovation in intelligent medical engineering, which will greatly contribute to medical development in China.

The Intelligent Medical Engineering Center will rely on the Medical College of Tianjin University, and fully integrate the resources of its cooperative enterprises such as 6 affiliated Tianjin University hospitals and the China Electronics Corporation (CEC). Facing the “Healthy China 2030” strategic demand, the center pursues intelligent human-computer interaction as its main job on the basis of modern medicine and biological theories. Centering on brain cognition, big data, cloud computing, machine learning and other aspects of artificial intelligence as well as the urgent demand of clinical application, the center focuses on key and generic technology and development of new intelligent products. In the future, the concern will focus on interdisciplinary integration and realize intelligent diagnosis and treatment based on human-computer coordination as well as safe and efficient clinical applications to provide product and technology support for the national economy, public health and special needs.

In 2019, universities and colleges have established 61 nationwide engineering research centers on behalf of the Ministry of Education.
