TJU and Harvard University to Cooperate on Disaster Medicine

 Global

On September 18, a delegation led by Gregory Ciottone, the Director of the Division of Disaster Medicine at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Harvard Medical School (BIDMC) and President of the World Association for Disaster and Emergency Medicine (WADEM), visited Tianjin University to deepen cooperation.

Disaster medicine is of great importance, yet there are not many colleges or universities developing research in this field. TJU’s Party Secretary Li Jiajun hopes that the comprehensive cooperation will promote the cultivation of talent and scientific research.

Director Ciottone stated that the two universities previously cooperated on disaster medicine. Tianjin University is equipped with mature teams in the field and anticipates more in-depth cooperation between the two universities.

Tianjin University’s Academy of Disaster Medicine and Harvard’s BIDMC founded the Joint Disaster Medical Research and Teaching Center in 2018. Both sides will further cooperate and establish the first branch center of WADEM in China.

A four-day Harvard Disaster Medicine High-level Course was introduced into China for the first time by Tianjin University, which will have a far-reaching influence in the disaster medicine disciplinary construction and talent cultivation. The course will be delivered by Director Ciottone and his delegation and 57 domestic experts in the field of disaster medicine in China will attend.
