Tianjin University Professor Wins the First Xplorer Prize

In September 2019, Professor Gong Jinlong of Tianjin University received theXplorer Prizefor his outstanding contributions in the field of energy and environmental protection. Fifty applicants out of over 1000 won this award.

Professor Gong Jinlong is an expert in the field of energy and chemical engineering. Over the years, he has led his team to make innovations, focusing on talents training, national major strategic needs and the frontier of global scientific and technological development.

The " Xplorer Prize " is a non-governmental and public interest award for young scientists and technicians aged 45 and below who are working full-time on the Chinese mainland. The award focuses on nine fields of fundamental science and frontier technologies, including life science, astronomy and geosciences, mathematics and physics, chemistry and new materials, information technology and electronics, energy and environmental protection, advanced manufacturing, transportation and construction, as well as cross-disciplinary technology. To ensure authority and utmost fairness, over 350 experts from various fields participated in the selection of the first Xplorer Prize, and more than 100academicianstook part in the nomination, recommendation and evaluation process, fully implementing the principle of “the scientist has the final say”. Among the 50 winners, Professor Wang Shuxiao of the School of Environment, Tsinghua University is also an alumnus of the Tianjin University Department of Chemical Engineering.

The 2019 Xplorer Prizeawarding ceremonywill be held in Beijing on November 2. At the ceremony, the 50 winners will meet with the public, and many representatives of domestic and foreign scientists will also join together to witness this memorable moment.
