Tianjin University Hosts National Conference on Man-Machine Speech Communication

On August 14-17, 2019, the 15th National Conference on Man-Machine Speech Communication (NCMMSC2019), and the 1st Annual Meeting of China Computer Federation (CCF) Speech and Auditory Processing Committee were successfully held under the joint supervision of Tianjin University and Qinghai Nationalities University.

Speech communication is an important field in artificial intelligence. NCMMSC is the most important academic conference on speech communication in China. The 1st Annual Meeting of the China Computer Federation (CCF) Speech and Auditory Processing Committee brings together the elites of domestic speech research and industry. The two conferences were hosted by the CCF, the Chinese Information Society of China, the Chinese Acoustics Society, the Chinese Language Society's Phonetic Branch, and the China Electronics Society. The College of Intelligence and Computing at Tianjin University and the School of Computer Science at Qinghai Nationalities University jointly organized these two conferences.

Xue Jianhua, Party Secretary of Qinghai Nationalities University delivered a speech to welcome all the participants of the conference. Wang Gang, Vice President of Qinghai Nationalities University attended the opening ceremony. Tao Jianhua, NCMMSC Chairman, gave a brief introduction to the two conferences. More than 350 experts and scholars from various universities, scientific research institutions and industry participated in the conference.

This conference mainly covers topics like speech recognition and enhancement, speaker recognition and language recognition, speech synthesis and corpus, phonetics in speech engineering, speech generation, speech analysis and modeling, minority speech processing, emotional speech, speech and medical science, etc. Four students, including Wei Xiao from Tianjin University, won the Best Student Paper Award.

The conference this year was the largest in the history of NCMMSC, and it was also held for the first time in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. The success of the conference not only expanded the influence of Tianjin University in the field of Artificial Intelligence, but also fully reflected the advantages and achievements of counterpart support between Tianjin University and Qinghai Nationalities University.
