Here is Tianjin University.

Our campuses are filled with beauty and exhilarating activities as witnessed by a video shot by TJU students and, broadcasted on CCTV.

Beauty can be found in every corner of the campuses.

The Feng Jicai Institute of Literature and Art has been dubbed: “the most charming school of TJU”.

TJU is definitely known for the hardcore strengths in scientific research and teaching.

Among the first batch of “emerging engineering education” research and practice projects announced by the Ministry of Education, 9 projects at TJU were selected, while the total number of projects ranked first among all Chinese universities.

TJU also ranks second among universities in China for the number of projects in 8 fields under the 2018 National Key R&D Program of China.

In the fourth round of the national discipline assessment conducted by the Ministry of Education, 14 disciplines achieved the A level and, the engineering disciplines ranked fourth.

The National Project of Virtual Simulation Experiment was awarded the national “Golden Course”.

Last year, TJU won 4 national “Golden Courses” adding to an already prestigious number, which moved the ranking to fifth throughout the country.

TJU leads the first major national science and technology infrastructure projects in the field of earthquake engineering as a result of the large-scale earthquake engineering simulation research facility.

Teachers and students of TJU participated in the design and construction of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge. For example, the island and tunnel project that they participated in was the most difficult part of the design of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, but they were determined to “develop and reform the nation in a down-to-earth way” and overcame all difficulties.

The development of 2300 sets of hydraulic actuators prompted the completion of the Five hundred meters Aperture Spherical Telescope (FAST), pushing China’s astronomical observation into the forefront of the world. So far, TJU as well as Chinese people have the chance to cross the threshold of the distant universe.

A TJU team also solved the problem of interaction between the lander and lunar soil, which helped the rover land smoothly. Our name will be seen on the Mars lander in the future!

More than 4000 faculty and staff are leading our way at TJU.

TJU has 12 academicians, 17 chief scientists of the “973” Project, 65 members of the Chang Jiang Scholars Program of the Ministry of Education, 51 winners of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, 51 winners of the national “Outstanding Young Science Foundation”, and 39 winners of the “Ten Thousand Talents Program” (data as of December 31, 2018)

The academician teaches you math.

Professor Chen Yongchuan, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, lectures on Discrete Mathematics to the juniors of the School of Mathematics.

Six teachers, Jia Shaoyi, Liu Xijun, Zhang Sherong, Zhang Yuqin, Liu Junji and Ma Zhiyao, won the first Tianjin University Qiushi Model of Teaching award. They have been sticking to the first line of undergraduate education and teaching for decades, and have been well received by the students.

Qi Lan, teacher from the School of Civil Engineering, was “called” by the official microblog of CCTV news.

Na Yisha, has been praised by the students as having “the most beautiful blackboard writing”.

Nearly 21% of the undergraduates receive a postgraduate recommendation without taking the entrance exam.

The proportion of undergraduate students studying for master’s degree is more than 50%.

The one-time employment rate has been above 98% since 2000.

TJU has established partnerships with 210 universities, research institutes and companies in 39 countries and 3 regions.

TJU’s glory stays in all ages.

TJU is the first modern university in China.

Guided by the rules that “the way of self-improvement are based on educating talents, and the way of cultivating talents is based on setting up schools”, the University educated the first student who received the first Chinese university diploma with the signature from Emperor Guangxu of the Qing Dynasty. TJU has witnessed 124 years of changes in China.

The first Chinese university diploma

Looking back in Time

In 1894, at the age of 50, Sheng Xuanhuai realized the importance of cultivating talent and building schools. Therefore, with the approval from Emperor Guangxu, he established Peiyang Da Xue Tang on 2nd October, 1895, which became the anniversary day of TJU.

In the days of war, TJU continued to forge ahead, suffering with the country.

In 1900, the Eight-Power allied forces invaded Tianjin and Beijing, and the school was suspended.

In 1937, because of the Lugouqiao Incident, Tianjin was occupied and the school had to move west.

Together with Peking University, Beiping Normal University and Beiping Research Institute, National Xi ‘an Temporary University was established, later renamed as “National Northwest Union University”.

In August 1945, National Peiyang University was restored.

On September 22, 1951, Peiyang University merged with Hebei Technical College and was named Tianjin University by the country.

Although TJU has been renamed many times since its birth, its purpose remains, which is “development of education, cultivation of talents of high quality, and self-improvement”.

In 1959, it was listed as one of the first batch of national key universities.

After the reform and opening up, Tianjin University was listed as one of the key universities under Projects 211 and 985. In 2017, the university was listed a Class A university in the national “World-Class Universities construction”.

Nowadays, it is thought of as a comprehensive university with prominent engineering strengths and well-coordinated development of multidiscipline. It enjoys an outstanding reputation both at home and abroad for its mission of “building a strong country through development of education”, its school motto of “seeking truth from facts”, its ethos of “rigorous scholarship”, its tradition of “patriotic dedication” and its pursuit of “persistent innovation”.

Look back Tianjin University people in the history

During the Guangzhou Uprising, on December 12, 1927, revolutionist Zhang Tailei was shot dead for the cause of the Chinese revolution at the age of 29 years old. Patriotism is his last legacy to the students of TJU.

Zhao Tianlin was admitted to the law department of then Peiyang University in 1904 and studied law at Harvard University in 1906 and received his PhD in Law. He was appointed President of Peiyang University in 1914 and had been president for six years. He put forward the school motto of “seeking truth from facts”.

The well-known bridge expert, Mao Yisheng, used to be President of TJU.

Ma Yinchu, both famous at home and abroad, was admitted to Peiyang University in 1903. His sculpture still stands tall on the campus square.

The winner of the Highest Science and Technology Awards, Shi Changxu, was known as “the father of Chinese material science”. In the early 1960s, when undertaking the task of developing high-temperature turbine blades, Mr. Shi said firmly that “if the Americans can do it, the Chinese can do it, too!” Without any reference materials, it was developed in less than a year. China became the second country in the world to have such a blade.

Wei Shoukun, was admitted to Peiyang University in 1923, as a Metallurgy and Metallurgical Physical chemist, Metallurgical educator, one of the founders of the discipline of Metallurgical Physical Chemistry in China and academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. He obtained many important achievements in the theory and application of Metallurgical Thermodynamics. He taught for 60 years and cultivated a large number of metallurgical and metallurgical physical and chemical professionals.

During the four years in college, young people quickly grow up

This period of time will always give us a number of impressive things

When talking about the most profound impact after entrance with many first-year students, it must be the monthly examination of the advanced mathematics.

It is a common complaint among freshmen.

It helps them lay a solid foundation.

You will find a group of friends with common interests

Work hard for a club

Or discuss a competition far into the late night.

You will have the opportunity to stand on the stage with all lights on you

Or to compete with the Peiyang chorus

to appreciate the romance of dancing on stage

or to enjoy the passion of a symphony.

Singing with the light, is the sound of the dream blooming

You will become exhilarated by excellent senior students.

They may come from the badminton team of Tianjin University known for their awards in national competitions.

Or they may be the members of the dragon boat team that wins medals in major competitions at home and abroad.

In the fourth China College students “Internet Plus” innovation and entrepreneurship competition, Tianjin University’s “atom-high-speed handling robot” project won the gold medal in the main the competition. Tianjin University “BSC - animal disease monitoring and analysis expert” project took the silver award.

Maybe it’s the national prize winners who have won patents and published papers.

Seeking truth from facts and pursuing excellence

Is engraved on the heart of TJU students

And encourages all the students

To keep moving in a better and stronger direction

With a long history and profound culture, TJU is full of vigor with a promising future.
