Themed Event of Heritage Day Held

 Arts and Culture

On June 6,just before the 14th "Cultural and Natural Heritage Day”, the Feng Jicai Institute of Literature and Art, in collaboration with the Publicity Department and the Tianjin University Youth League Committee, held a unique cultural event with the theme of Heritage Day.

During the event, the Feng Jicai Institute of Literature and Art with its rich exhibition halls and museums was open for all the teachers and students to share the Heritage Day.

At 8:30 am, more than 300 teachers and students entered the Institute, deepening their understanding of Heritage Day through visits, interactions and cultural experiences.

In the ebullient atmosphere, leaders of the Research Center of Chinese Inheritors' Oral History, China's Traditional Village Protection and Development Research Center, and the Chinese Wood-block New Year Picture Study Center, gave speeches on the themes of the Heritage Day, the protection of traditional villages and the New Year pictures respectively.

During the event, student associations of Tianjin University's No. 1 Paper Studio, the Xinzhu Painting and Calligraphy Society and the Fine Brushwork Color Painting Association, exhibited intangible cultural heritage projects. The vivid and meticulous paper-plastic works, the elegant and meticulous paintings, and the simple and elegant seal script calligraphy attracted a large number of teachers and students. Under the guidance of members of the community, the teachers and students learned to make paper-plastic works on-site, traditional calligraphy and painting. Some teachers and students actively shot short videos and shared them on the tremolo platform.

In addition to a variety of exhibitions of intangible cultural heritage projects, the Peiyang Fine Arts Gallery, the Dashu Gallery, and the New Year Picture Gallery were also opened to teachers and students.

This event has a special interactive session. At the end of the event, the guest book was densely covered with messages. The teachers and students had written messages about their feelings about the visit, or made suggestions for the protection of cultural heritage as they were deeply touched.

As the earliest initiator of the Heritage Day, Professor Feng has long hoped since the end of last century that China would also define Cultural Heritage Day as some European countries did. In his view, Heritage Day is a festival shared by every member of society. Therefore, he actively advocates that everyone should learn traditional culture in daily life, gain a full and three-dimensional cultural consciousness through getting close and experiencing, and enjoy life in a way of beauty.

In 2002, Professor Feng initiated a civil cultural heritage rescue project. “From little spoons to traditional villages”, he led the members of the Chinese Folk Literature and Art Association, teachers and students of Feng Jicai Institute of Literature and Art, and all volunteers who care about folk culture to carry out a comprehensive general survey and rescue of China's 9.6 million square kilometers land area, and the cultural folk heritage of 56 nationalities.
