On May 20, the 7th Sunshine Sports Badminton Competition of Chinese Students came to an end at Guilin Normal College of Guangxi Province. 512 athletes, 186 coaches and staff from 69 colleges and universities across the country participated in the competition. The men’s badminton team of Tianjin University won fifth place in the men’s singles and fifth in the men’s groups.

In the men's team competition, all team members advanced from the group competition. In the knockout stage, they defeated the teams from Shanghai University and Guangxi University of Finance and Economics and successfully advanced to the top eight.

In the subsequent eight-in four competitions, Jie Yikang, Chen Zihong and other players fought hard in the following three games against the Shanghai Jiaotong University team. Unfortunately, the team missed the semi-finals. In the 5-8 ranking competition on the third day, the TJU badminton team defeated the teams from the Xi'an University School of Electronic Technology and the Civil Aviation University of China, finally winning fifth place.

Chen Yantianxiang participated in the men's singles and entered the top eight in the national singles. He eventually won fifth place in the eight-into-four games. At the same time, Dai Weiping, the coach of Tianjin University, was rated as an excellent coach by the Chinese University Sports Association and the team member Chen Yantianxiang won the title of excellent athlete.
