Practice Teaching


1. National level experiment teaching demonstration center


Adhering to the fine tradition “take practice as priority” and combing with our school’s discipline characteristic engineering-oriented and science and engineering combined, TJU makes full use of advantages in engineering education and by increasing capital investment, publishing related policies and measures and improve lab management and operation mechanism, etc, to comprehensively speed up lab construction and experiment teaching reform. Since 2005, 6 national level experiment teaching demonstration centers (demonstration center construction unit) have been successively approved, including chemistry and chemical engineering experiment teaching center, mechanical engineering practice teaching center, mechanics engineering experiment center, electrical electronics experiment teaching center, precision instruments and photoelectron experiment center and materials science and engineering practice center.


National level experiment teaching demonstration centre is aimed at cultivating students’ practice and innovative ability and improving teaching quality, centered in experiment teaching reform, based on open experiment resource sharing and guaranteed by high quality experiment team and perfect experiment condition to innovate management mechanism and comprehensively improve experiment teaching level and lab use efficiency.

Chemistry and chemical engineering experiment teaching center was established in 1997, which was awarded “standard lab” by the Tianjin education committee in 2001 , excellent lab in Tianjin common universities in 2005 and approved as first batch of national level experiment teaching demonstration center. The center, relying on TJU chemistry and chemical engineering doctorate authorization first-level discipline, national engineering basic course teaching base and three national level excellent courses, has made a series of landmark achievements in experiment teaching reform, teaching staff construction, textbook compilation and demonstration and radiation effect.

On the platform of mechanical engineering first-level discipline, Mechanical engineering practice teaching center is formed with practice center, mechanical engineering design and experiment center and mechanical engineering lab, which was approved as national level experiment teaching demonstration center in 2006. During long term construction and development, TJU mechanical engineering practice teaching center has become a teaching activity, research, practice and teacher training center that has modern engineering background, combining mechanics, electronics, information, system and management, complementing the whole talent cultivating process and servicing multi-level engineering practice teaching activities and science and technology innovation activities.

Mechanics engineering experiment center was identified as the construction unit of national level demonstration center, which open teaching experiment of 10 classes for undergraduates and post graduates of 22 majors, including theoretical mechanics, mechanics of materials, engineering mechanics, mechanics of fracture, linear vibration, vibration measurement, experiment skill, modal analysis, precision machinery design, apply of picture processing in mechanics and receive around 50 classes of students, totaling about 2000 people.

 

Electrical electronics experiment teaching center was identified as the construction unit of national level demonstration center, which assumes the undergraduate teaching tasks of electrical and electronics experiment, and foreign services and students’ outdoor technological activities. Each year, it provides good equipment and sites for all kinds and levels of science and technology innovation contest and has become an important base for cultivating high quality innovative talents.
 
Precision instruments and photoelectron experiment center was approved as the construction unit of national level experiment teaching demonstration center. The experiment center is constructed according to experiment technology characteristics and professional teaching need and now possesses 6 laboratories including sensor technology and measurement and control electronics, measuring and testing technique and precision machinery, optics and optoelectronic technology, applied electronic technology, computer and information processing and integrative testing devices and 1 comprehensive design laboratory, which has achieved network information management. Besides in-class experiment, laboratories operates openly and students participated in open activities make up more than 50% of the total sum of students should be taught. What’s more, the center holds all kinds of the school’s and country’s competition making full use of accessible resources. Driven by reform of engineering education and plan of outstanding engineer, the experiment center has established joint laboratories consecutively with many enterprises and makes full use of enterprise resources to widen the channel for training students’ practical ability.

Materials science and engineering practice center was identified as national level experiment teaching demonstration center in 2012. Towards the entire school, while accomplishing regulated practice, experiment and related teaching experiment tasks, the center services for science and research, open to the society to successfully avoid redundant construction. Especially large-scale instrument and equipment, including summer and winter holiday, the center opens to students, teachers and the society all day along. The teaching resources played important role in teacher’s scientific research, making the quantity and quality of published scientific papers ascending obviously. Meanwhile, scientific achievements can timely be transferred into teaching resources, which has promoted the experiment teaching reform and improved teaching quality.


2. National level engineering practice teaching center


Engineering practice teaching centre is an important support of engineering practice ability training. Universities and enterprises jointly construct engineering practice teaching center is an essential reform for China promoting “excellent engineer training plan”. Till June 2012, national level engineering practice teaching center was approved, which is jointly applied by TJU and 12 enterprises and public institutions including Shang Dong Weichai Power Co., LTD, Hebei Shi Jiazhuang No4 Phomoceutical Co. ,LTD, Tianjin Xingang Shipbuilding Heavy Industry Co.,LTD and Tianjin Bohai Steel.

3. National level virtual simulation experiment teaching center


Chemistry and chemical engineering virtual simulation experiment teaching center was approved as national level virtual simulation experiment teaching center in 2004.The center has integrated all virtual stimulation experiment teaching resources of chemistry and chemical engineering and all those resources and information can be shared in center website. Unit operations of chemical engineering and chemical process virtual simulation experiment have played an important role in teaching practice. And the practical simulation software co-developed with enterprises also contributes a lot in every year’s student practice, personnel training of petrochemical industry, and skill certification. Various developed basic chemical engineering experiment including integrated with mechatronics have all fundamentally achieved computer control and data collection and analysis. Those equipment have been adopted by many universities in our country and made great contribution to chemistry and chemical practice teaching. The three sets of chemical process simulation experiment have been adopted by more than 20 universities as compulsory courses.
