Team of Supervisors

 

Following the policies of improving the quality while increasing the quantity of  the supervisory teams, Tianjin University (TJU) has built up a high academic standard, and an inspiring research environment in a large number of academic disciplines. When TJU resumed its graduate admission in 1978, there were only sixty-seven supervisors for the master’s and Ph. D. students.  Today the number has soared to 1909 close to two thousand.


Since the establishment of the Graduate School, the number of doctoral supervisors has increased from fourteen to seven hundred and nineteen, among which nineteen are Academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the Chinese Academy of Engineering. Nine are members of the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council, twenty-nine have been selected as members of the National Thousand Talents Plan, sixty-four selected as members of the Tianjin Thousand Talents Plan, and thirty-seven were given the title of Yangtse River Scholar, Distinguished Professor, and Visiting Professor by the Ministry of Education. Twenty-seven are awardees of the National Outstanding Youth Fund, and eleven are Chief Scientists of Program 973.

 

Adhering to the selection policy of “Improving the Quality while Controlling the Quantity”, among these 719 supervisors, there are 14 Academicians of Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Engineering, 40 “National Thousand Talent Program Scholars”, 106 “Tianjin Thousand Talent Program Scholars”, 42 “Chang Jiang Scholars” as specially-appointed visiting professors, 22 winners of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars and 11 Chief Scientists of the National “973” Key Basic Research Project. Tianjin University establishes a team of supervisors with excellent academic competence and high interests in scientific research in a great deal of disciplines.
