In-depth Collaboration to be developed in the Field of Engine Control

"Engine control is like the brain of the engine. To meet the increasingly complex and severe challenges, we will bring together the advantages of universities, enterprises and research institutes worldwide and put forward innovative concept for the industry with the aim of redefining the soft and hard structure of the 'brain' and investigating advanced algorithms," said Professor Xie Hui, Deputy Director of the State Key Laboratory for Internal Combustion Engine and Combustion of Tianjin University (TU) at the Signing Ceremony on the Memorandum of Understanding concerning Advanced Engine Control Joint Research Center/Network on November 18.

Initiated by the State Key Laboratory for Internal Combustion Engine and Combustion of TU, the Advanced Engine Control Joint Research Center is also comprised of the following members: Loughborough University (Department of Aeronautical and Automotive Engineering), Lund University (Department of Energy Sciences), Linkoping University (Department of Electrical Engineering), HARC-Houston Advanced Research Center (a renowned research organization in the fields of energy and environmental protection in the U.S.) and Infineon Technologies (top one among the automotive electronic companies in the world). To meet the more and more strict requirements and severe challenges in the field of engine control regarding efficient combustion, low emission, safe performance and better reliability, the six parties above will develop in-depth transnational and interdisciplinary cooperation in terms of research, talent training and academic exchanges, by integrating the disciplinary and resource advantages and international influence of universities, enterprises and research institutes.

Innovative research will be conducted in the Joint Research Center, focusing on the key issues mentioned above in the field of engine control. In addition, education related activities will be organized from time to time including seminars on engine control technology, thesis exchanges, student mobility and international summer school. The six parties will play an active part in joint research projects between China, the US and the European Union.

The representatives from the six parties were present at the Signing Ceremony. Vice Party Secretary Li Yidan met with the guests before the Signing Ceremony. He congratulated the six parties on the establishment of the Joint Research Center and hoped that the center could take advantage of the achievements of internationally renowned universities, multinational enterprises and research institutes and further deepen the collaboration in terms of talent training, people exchange, joint research and resource sharing so as to further enhance the engine control technology.
